Fire, Smoke, And Drought: California And Junk Hauling
These are not good times for California. Between heat waves, drought, wildfires, and smoke, the physical and economic damage has been devastating.
And for many homes, even though they've escaped the flames, the smoke has damaged property and the lack of water has destroyed lawns and landscaping. Which means a growing need for junk hauling and removal.
Smoke on the Water - And Not Enough Water
As of the end of July 2021, the state's fire agency, Cal Fire, listed the following statistics on their website,
2021 Incident Archive - A summary of all 2021 incidents, including those managed by CAL FIRE and other partner agencies:
- 542,584 Estimated Acres Burned
- 5,998 Incidents
- 0 Fatalities or Confirmed Loss of Life
- 400 Structures Damaged or Destroyed
Their homepage goes on to note that,
While wildfires are a natural part of California’s landscape, the fire season in California and across the West is starting earlier and ending later each year... The length of fire season is estimated to have increased by 75 days across the Sierras and seems to correspond with an increase in the extent of forest fires across the state.
While the year is only a bit more than half over, and the traditional fire season has not yet ended, a positive aspect of the wildfire devastation is that relatively few structures have been lost and there has been no known loss of life.
But that's just the wildfires plaguing the state. A lingering drought has only served to compound the state's woes.
The U.S. Drought Monitor estimates that estimated population in California drought area is about 37,253,956 residents. In addition to almost the entire state (95%) classified as being in at least a severe drought condition, almost half the state (46.49%) is in a state of Exceptional Drought, being the top of the scale.

Among other issues such as dangerous air quality levels and power outages due to power grids being overwhelmed in the heat, homeowners and others have experienced smoke damage and property damage from excessive heat.
And one of the result of these types of issues is the need to get rid of damaged furniture, drapes, and other household goods. Along with these junk items, there is also an increase in yard waste composed of dead plants, shrubbery, and debris that could become fuel for flying embers.
The good news is that all of these types of junk hauling and removal tasks do not have to be done by homeowners, tenants, and business owners.
Just one call to Junk King and you can have all that dead turf and landscaping debris cleared out and gone. If you've lost furniture or other household items to irreparable smoke damage, we can haul that off, too.
As a certified essential business, Junk King is fully operable regardless of the conditions - or even the possibility of more coronavirus-related restrictions.
